Calanova is a course that, unfortunately, seems to have suffered more than most during the recession.
Several years after opening there is still a temporary clubhouse, hundreds of unsold apartments surround the course, and the course itself is in need of major TLC.
Having said that, it is an interesting layout, with spectacular views, and the green fees reflect that the golf course is not in the best condition. When we played it in September 2011, the greens were poor and bumpy, possibly over-watered, and the fringes were very inconsistent with several bare patches.
The first 3 holes have generous landing areas to get you comfortable before you come to the signature hole - a downhill "ski-slope" par 4 that offers a chance of reaching the green from the tee, but really needs your best shot.
Interesting and challenging par 3's, tremendous elevation changes, and lots of "risk and reward" opportunities make this the basis for a really good golf course. Let's hope they get their greenkeeping issues sorted out soon...
