Valderrama Golf Course Review
This is everything you would expect from a course rated the "Best in Europe" for most of the last 20 years.
From the moment you arrive you know you are somewhere special - a glorious setting with superb staff. Despite the beatiful fairways and greens that beckon, this course can eat you alive.
On the side of the perfect fairways lies what at first seems to be light rough, but it wants to hang on to your ball. Everywhere there are Cork and Olive trees that overhang the fairway if they are not actually in the middle of it! And very precise positioning of the ball is essential to reach the greens.
Ah Yes! the greens: if you manage to avoid the extensive bunkering you will reach probably the best greens you will find anywhere. After 5 putting the second we began to get the hang of the speed. As if all this was not hard enough, at the front of most elevated greens there is a finely cut fairway that most courses would be happy to have for greens. If you land your ball short of the green it will almost certainly roll back 30-40yards from the green!
Valderrama is wonderful, but does not come cheap. Apart from the green fee itself, buggies are 60euros and bacon sandwiches and coffee for two 25euros. Save up for this day - it will be worth it!
